Welcome to the first in a series of exciting blog updates on one of our current commercial projects, the re-development of Tynecastle’s Main Stand. IES are delighted to be the Electrical Contractor on such a major project helping Heart of Midlothian F.C. achieve their ambitious plans for the club and its ground.

Away up in Gorgie at Tynecastle Park…The opening line to the famous club song. Did you know the club decided back in the 1990’s to rename the ground Tynecastle Stadium? Hasn’t got quite the same ring to it…Well, not for much longer. As part of the new development Hearts will be officially re-naming the ground back to the historic “Tynecastle Park” giving the fans amongst the new capacity of 20,000 something to sing about again.

The original main stand at Tynecastle was designed by renowned stadium architect Archibald Leitch who was also responsible for other famous designs around Scotland and the UK including Dens Park, Hampden Park, Anfield and Old Trafford to name just a few.

Completed in 1919 the old main stand has certainly served the club well but with changes to the modern game and stadium standard requirements to be met to allow the club to grow and compete in European competitions the club decided to upgrade its main stand to a new capacity of 7290 brining the total number of seats to just over 20,000.

Edinburgh Architects James Clydesdale & Associates have put forward the plans and vision set out by the club and its fans group the Foundation of Hearts. The main stand will provide state of the art facilities for fans, players, staff and media, with new seating to hold 7290 fans with additional areas for corporate hospitality, executive boxes, changing rooms, media centre and staff offices. The three existing stands will also be given a makeover to bring the whole stadium together as one coherent design.

Work is well underway and all our team at IES are working hard with the sort of dedication and commitment that makes us one of Scotlands most successful Electrical Contractors, as we move through the construction phase we will provide more updates from site as we move towards completion.
