New guidance in Scotland which takes effect from 1st December 2015, requires carbon monoxide (CO) alarms in all private rented properties. It's the landlords' personal responsibility to ensure any property they rent meets this requirement.
CO alarms must have a battery that lasts the life of the product and include an end of life audible warning. So even if you have CO alarms installed check now:
Does the existing alarm have a replaceable battery? If it does it's probably not compliant
Does the alarm have an end of life warning indication?
Even if your existing CO alarm has a sealed for life battery, what's the warranty? Does it match the life of the alarm?
